Letters from Dr. Geffen's former Patients
August 1, 2002
Dear Dr. Geffen and Staff,
Last Wednesday, you gave me the opportunity to attend your weekly staff meeting. Your commitment to each other and to your patients, including me, makes me understand how different things can be when love is the motivating factor. Beginning with the meditation, and then the reading of the mission statement, followed by reading each of your Team Agreements, these events have to be unique in the annals of medicine.
I came to the center unable to even drink water, with a J-tube and taking Paxil and Ativan. Now I am free of those appendages. I never knew what love and kindness could do. Where else do you see staff hugging patients? The other day I saw a woman, I don't know her name, and she was obviously scared and I saw Ellie put her arms around this woman and hold her tight and two others until there were three people and you could see she was comforted.
Thank you.
